Important Information

Physicals

We must have your completed physical and other paperwork (the code of conduct, concussion form, and parent consent form) uploaded to Rank One.

Tryout Practices

Held for two weeks starting October 7, 2024 at Kedron Aquatic Center. All practices until time trials are required except for returning year-round swimmers. New year-round swimmers must attend the first practice on October 7 and time trials.

Time Trials

Wednesday - October 16, 2024 in the evening. Time trials will last for about an hour, and we will continue to practice until 9:00 PM. Returning year-round swimmers must attend time trials.

Practices (Pool)

We will be using Kedron Aquatic Center for our practices. Practices begin October 7, 2024 and will be:

  • Monday 6:00 AM - 7:20 AM
  • Tuesday 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Wednesday 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Note: Students must provide own transportation.  All practices are mandatory except for year-round swimmers.

Practices (Dryland)

Mandatory dryland workouts will be held in the SMHS weight room near the stadium.  Dryland entails running, stretching and core strengthening.

  • Thursday 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
  • Friday morning 7:00 AM -7:45 AM yoga/stretching before school

Transportation

Getting to and from practice is the responsibility of the swimmer; no bus will be provided for practices. Per FCBOE guidelines, students may not drive other students to and from practice/meets UNLESS a parent has given consent by signing the TADRA form which was attached to the back of the physical. Because the coaches have to be at work by 8:00am, swimmers must be picked up by 7:20am. Swimmers picked up late on two separate occasions may be removed from the team. Swimmers may return home after a meet with a parent, but parents must personally sign out their swimmer with Coach Huggins or Coach Abrams.

Qualifying for State

Qualification for the State Swim Meet, which will be held February 5-6, 2025, is based strictly on meeting a time requirement (posted on our website). Throughout the season we will arrange our relays with a variety of swimmers. You will not necessarily be on the relay that swims at State even if you were on a relay that qualified during the season. For State, the coaches will put together the fastest relay based on times achieved throughout the season.

Swimmers' Responsibilities

It is your responsibility to show up for practice ready to work and to show up for meets dressed in uniform, ready to compete, and aware of what events you are swimming. Meet entries will be posted outside your coaches' doors a few days prior to each meet. You must familiarize yourself with your entries BEFORE the meet. It is also your responsibility to take care of yourself and your health throughout the season so that you can perform to the very best of your ability.

Code of Conduct

All SMHS swimmers and parents will be required to sign the Fayette County Athletic Code of Conduct and the Swim Team Code of Conduct. As representatives of not only the Swim Team but also Starr's Mill, members are expected to behave appropriately at all times, including during school hours, traveling to and from practices, and during practices and meets. Failure to uphold the Codes of Conduct will result in disciplinary action, including failure to letter as well as removal from the team.
